A quote from Winston Churchill, giving evidence at, I think, Bede Bentley's 1925 claim for having invented the tank. I was sure I'd made a note of this, but I can't find it now.
Churchill was asked if anyone else could claim to have invented the tank. Churchill's reply was something like: "I think Mr. H.G. Wells has exhausted all possibilities of the imagination in that respect."
Or something like that. I know my version is a bit rough round the edges, and I'm sure Churchill will have been much more crafted, but it's something along those lines. The reason I ask is that many sources make claims about Churchill confessing to have been directly influenced by The Land Ironclads, whereas his quote is much more vague. And, of course, there's Repington's report that "Winston said that though he had in his mind H.G. Well's predictions about them, they really developed from the armoured motor car."
Hope someone can help.
