I'm researching my great-grandfather, 2/Lt Hugh Bird Jones of A Company, 15th Battalion Tank Corps. On the night of 4/5 August 1918, on the march to Querrieu Wood, his leg was run over by a tank (the same night 2/Lt A.F. Lakeman was killed). Family tradition says his tank was "Overland".
The war diary (WO 95/103/6, Appendix A, p.28) lists Overland as O.20 in A2 Group under Major D.C. Allen, in Lieut. Ibbotson's section, commanded by Lt J.P. Hancock on 8 August 1918.
I'd be grateful for any help with: 1. Do IWM Q 46137 (exterior) and Q 46136 (interior) really show Overland (9847)? The interior seems to show "9820", and the Landships Mark V* list files Q 46136 under 9820. 2. Is there any record of which tank Hugh commanded before 5 August 1918? 3. Any crew lists or battle history sheets for A Coy / A2 Group, August 1918, naming Overland's crew or Hugh? 4. Any other photos of Overland?
