Hello everyone- I am soon to start modelling some russian artillery of WWI and found great reference for the 122mm Howitzer m/10 here. I have a few questions about its components which I would be greatful if someone could clear up.
Here I have circled parts I am confused with: I beleive the chrome device is for aiming, is that correct, and where does it attatch to the gun?
What is that box on the gun sheild?
Is that a seat for the aimer? This is the only thing which makes sense to me but I'm not sure. Is there a seat for the gunner somehwere else?
Yes, the "chrome thing" is part of the aiming device, but the actual dial sight itself is missig. I t should be small tube-like contraption on top of the funnel-like thing. As fire was indirect, aiming was the same, using a set of plates or sticks to the BACK of the gun. Yes it is the aimers seat. I think there is a seat for the guy operating the breech. The box I believe is a post-WW1 Finnish addition: it's a sort of connection box for the inter-com between the battery calculation unit and the aimers of the individual guns.
