WW1 Trench Railways - Deutz Benzollok 4w Loco
Permalink

This may be a long shot but I am looking for a drawing of the 600mm gauge Deutz Benzollok that was ubiqiuitous on the German Trench Railways. I have lots of good photos of several different locos. And also drawings of the Ruston Proctor loco that was based on a Deutz. The oil engine was originally developed by Herbert Ackroyd Stuart. Hornsby Ackroyd had developed the first paraffin fuelled oil engine tractor and locomotive by 1896. Deutz took the oil engine and developed a locomotive that was then copied by Ruston Proctor. 442 oil engine powered locomotives were supplied to the Russians during WW1.

Nice images of the Ruston Proctor here - saw a model railway at the Royal Gunpowder Mills, which used the Ruston's, and had models of these locomotives, don't know where they got them from though

.... I am currently building this loko in 1/32 scale. The most time consuming issue is the motor itself. What is it you want to know ?

Thanks guys for the help. It is mostly all new information. Do you have any drawings? As I am only modelling in 1/76 then the engine does not matter too much, but I am interested in the Cab. If I obtain sufficient information then I will most likely develop an 009 kit. My current projects include a Schneider LG1916, A Dick Kerr Petrol Electiric and lastly a Westinghouse PE. The latter is based on photos and some remains found in France in 2008.

Neil, i'm very interested in the Dick Kerr and Westinghouse kits - when will they be available, and from whom? Also, are the remains of the Westinghouse on display anywhere?

The Dick Kerr will be released this year. We have all the parts and I will be sending off the final artwork this week. The the instructions will be created whilst building the pre-production etches. We are also creating a casting for the radiator as my colleagues were concerned that the etched version, although very authentic, would be too difficult for most modellers.

Regards

Neil M

After a year my project to create an 009 (1/76) scale kit for the Deutz is nearing completion. The prototype is shown below.

Many thanks to those who provided me with drawings.

Hello All,

There are a number of places offering a reprinted copy of the Deutz catalog...

http://bahnbuch.de/neuheiten-vorankuendigungen/neuerscheinungen-2015/deutzer-motor-lokomotiven.htm

Also, I found this drawing online.  It is similar to the other one I posted some years ago except it has a little more detail and lots of additional measurements.

Enjoy,

Mark Stonbraker

Hello All,

It's been sometime since I last posted.  I was able to locate some information on the Deutz Dreiachsige Lokomotiven used during WWI.  Here are some drawings and photos...

Enjoy!

Respectfully,
