I have just come into these beautiful original WW1 Posters from an older gentleman who's father was in the 37th Infantry Regiment company "K" in the US Army from 1917 to 1919. I was wondering if anyone could help me with any information about these posters. Both have his name on them. one handwritten and the other typed or printed in the "roll of honor" for his regiment.
Is this something of value or are they rather easy to find? I am a ww2 collector at heart, but was offered these for my trade services. Did I get ripped off or are these something that i could sell rather easily? And to be honest, I might just keep them as part of my collection as I find them pretty neat! just not my area of interest particularly.
They have the copyright of a company at the bottom: HH Stratton 1917 Chattanooga tenn if that helps to gain some info on these! THANKS A BUNCH as i am out of my "NORM" of WW2.
**NOTE THESE ARE 2 different Posters** click to enlarge! sorry for bad pics
What i mean by trade services is that I traded some landscaping services for these posters. maybe close to $100 worth of services. I'm just curious to see what anyone has to say about these. I personally have never seen anything like them. One of them is ripped and torn up on the bottom, but is still fully legible. The other poster is in great shape for the date. THANK YOU for your time and input in advance!
Can't help you really but as general comment anything to do with the 37th Regiment might appeal to a specialised collector and should be quite rare. The 37th seems to have been one raised during the Civil War then absorbed into the 3rd and the 5th on conclusion then reactivated at various times, including WWs 1 and 2 (the "Brief History" on one of the posters should give you a good idea). There's not as much information out there as there is about the regiments with continuity. As WW1 items (or Laredo or Fort McIntosh items) they would have their own appeal in the American market and the many camp scenes would add to that.
You shouldn't have much trouble getting the value from them on eBay or similar - as you probably know from your own collecting, collectors watch eBay closely and frequently pay "over the odds" to get particular pieces that fit their interests or simply take their fancy.
I haven't seen anything quite like them either - they would really add value to (say) a collection of the father's service medals or something like that but that's probably no use to you.
thank you so much for your time and great response. I agree that these would sell quite quickly on ebay or such to a ww1 collector. I know that WW2 collecting has ridiculously blown up from when I started collecting. But like I stated before, i have never really strayed from my WW2 items and dont know if the market for ww1 items is similar to ww2. As a collector who NEVER really sells anything from my personal collection......It would be really hard for me to even let these go. But everything has a price and where WW1 is out of my range of collecting, it just got me to thinking how much these would really be worth.
I appreciate you looking up info on the 37th, as I could not find too too much info other than relating the regiment to the "buckeye" division. The poster gives some good info about the division itself, but unfortunately the bottom of one of the posters is torn up and is missing a 1/2inch by 1/2inch piece right in the middle of the regimental description. THANKS AGAIN! and to anyone who might comment on these posters or would be interested in them for a personal collection.
