The Artillery Museum at North Head in Sydney is to close at the end of this year. The Austrlaian Army has pulled the pin on the museum after the nominal land owner - the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust imposed unacceptable rent and access conditions on the site.
The collection will be moved into storage at Bandiana in Victoria for eventual display at a museum to be built at the Artillery School, Puckapunyal Army Base.
The developers have been after North Head for decades - looks like they finally won.
I'm an American officer stationed there when it was still the School of Artillery for the RAA. I lived on St. Barbara Ave No. 7
What a tremendous opportunity that was. I knew then they were talking about moving that whole thing to Puckapunyal. That was the coolest two years of my whole 20 year career. Manly, Sydney, beautiful places.
