How did you make the canvas track covers?

Track covers are made from thin polystyren - i use old telephone card.Modeller knife and - we have a covers.

looks good but i do not think those canvas covers were able to hold those goods.
If you look at photos from Whippets i see goods lying on top and on the backside but i have not yet seen a picture of a whippet with anything on the canvas covers.
is there a photo?
