This is my first posting, so I thought I'd start with a question.
I have bought Hecker & Goros' Austrian Artillery Officer (1917) and wondered what the sidearm is that he's carrying. It has a long holster with what appears to be a magazine pouch attached to the rear.
It doesn't affect how I paint the figure, but it would be nice to know what they were issued with. I suspect a long barreled Luger, but could well be wrong.
Also, I plan to pain the rank insignia (single metal star) as silver, without braiding (the Blandford book on army uniforms implies that the colours were done away with 1916+) - unless someone can provide evidence to the contrary on this latter point?
And a field grey uniform.
Any opinions etc much appreciated. And do 1/72 British tank crews exist to go with my Emhar Whippet?
Sidearm. We need an expert to comment but one would expect the pistol to be the Roth-Steyr M1907 or just possibly the Mauser C96. The Luger/Parabellum would seem a little unlikely - they were apparently in short supply even for German forces. Both the Roth-Steyr and Mauser C96 were probably carried with pouches for additional clips of ammunition.
