Francisco, just to say good luck with the venture, i'd be interested in buying one when finished
I couldn't open James's link, but does it include the armoured cover for the hydraulics for the tail? There was some discussion on that recently, and I don't remember seeing one in my kits
I think the sponsons are the next most obvious items to look at. On the Airfix kits, male and female, there are no details on the top of the sponson.
For the male sponsons, I believe the sighting aperture is missing from the gun shield on both sides. There is also an "L" shaped bracing bar missing from the roof of the sponson. And a flap for the Hotchkiss MG position just in front of the 6-pdr.
(I must caution you - I am working from memory, as I am too lazy to walk downstairs.
You really should take a look at these fantastic plans that Helen has been kind enough to post; they are amazing.
Yes, definitely a new gun shield would be nice - as PDA says, there's no sighting aperture, and it's not 'wide' enough for you to display the 6 pdr in certain positions
I'm creatinh a resin conversiont set for a British Mk I tank, based on Airfix's kit.
So far, I have the top part with the widened cab and round hatch but what else should I include?
Hi Francisco
As Phil mentioned I am working on a set of MK1 Tank plans, and I would be happy to help in any way I can.
To be honest the Airfix kit needs a new top deck including cab, and then a new roof for the sponsons to give them their rivets and the L' bar.
Hmmm... just looked at the kit again... new sides with MK1 track adjusters wouldn't go amiss, that and remove some lines of rivets that just shouldn't be there.
Thank you all for your quick input. I appreciate all the help that I've received since I joined this forum a few years ago.
@ James - Thank you for the Airfix Magazine article. Its content is similar to the one that can be found through Landships main page but there were a details i didn't know about..
@Rob - To be honest, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I've only build a Mk II so far and don't remember dealing with those details..
@Michel - I have read about creating PEs but haven't tried it yet...
@PDA - I have female sponsons ready and I've already tackled the male sponsons issues during my MK II conversion. Therefore, I guess I might create a set of ready-to-use female/male sponson set...
@Helen - I have already thanked you in your topic for all of your work but I'll do it once again, I think all of us appreciate it and share your enthusiasm. My way of "giving back" is to keep on modelling and keep showing my models, hoping that you all can see how you motivate me and and bring positiveness to my life, through our hobby.
I've built and detailed the sponsons in a way that, once glued in place, they show those L shaped attachment points - I'll do the same with the male sponsons once I get into them. I'm already working on a new roof - basically the whole top section including the widened cab - so I wont be doing new sides, that would almost be like making a new kit and I'm not ready for that. I'm also planning on making new tracks (cheaper ones!), so I've already been doing research in this forum :)
If you look at Michel's photos of the rear of HMLS Sir Archibald in Gaza, in this thread, you will see the hydraulics cover that Rob is referring to (I think).

That "big box"? It's the first time I see it, to be honest. Should that be absent when the extra wheels are mounted?
