I have been going through my translated Russian book "Tanks: the developing history of armored tanks". Most of the vehicles in it is already known to me, but I haven't heard of anything on these.
It is said that these two kinds of armored shields were built and tested by Russian army during WW1(year unknown). The one on the left was called "turtle". It has no fixed weapons. The armor thickness is: 7mm in the front, 5mm in the side and bottom. The weight is about 50kg. The one on the right was called "armored machine gun", it has a Maxim HMG as fixed weapon. The weight is about 90kg.
The test proved that it was easy for a soldier to move the "turtle" on hard ground, but it was rather difficult to move it across cultivated fields. And it was impossible to move it on some more rough terrains.
Really? I think they are quite convincing when the book place them along with so many real vehicles.
The book has provided the sources of its information. However, the sources are in Russian so I can't read them. I have uploaded them in attachment. Could you please take a look at them and tell me if these things really existed or were totally fake?
Wow, thanks for the photos and info! I admit that I have posted it in the wrong section of the forum as this were not armored cars or tanks... I realize it now... Sorry!
