Vemorel tank sprayer

Googled this:

It is said to be a "Vemorel copper tank sprayer", used in WW1 trenches.

Was it really used in trenches during WW1 (photo looks to "clean" to me and the two guys are posing for advertising vemorel tanks I think)? If yes I suppose it was used as insecticide sprayer?

VERMOREL SPRAYER An agricultural spraying tool, used in the trenches to spray dispersal chemicals onto low-lying pockets of gas.
