scratch build french revetting
Permalink

hello,

can anyone tell how I would scratchbuild the French wicker style revetting found in World War One trenches at 1/72 scale?.

Also, where can I find wire thin enough to represent barbed wire at 1/72 scale, in my day yawn yes, 40 years ago, we used to build all our own stuff, not like today you know, dont know their born ... etc. .  biggrin

Thanks

For barbed wire I use insect screen - the kind that screen doors are made of. Just cut along a strand and the little bits of the cross pieces make great barbs. But if you're not on this side of the pond that's not much use to you. I have read that people in the UK have used that thin security tagging wire that they put through gas meters - it has little bobbles on it.

For wicker revetments I have tried to use the gabions from a (boring) ACW set. I opened them out flat and joined three together. Didn't work brilliantly well. But the theory is sound!

Try using some plastic wattle fencing from Rendera Plastics, other wise use some copper wire wrapped over paperclips

Hi,
For your wicker, cut up an old yard boom and use the bristles to make the wicker!

Now, THAT is really original!, it would look really realistic!

I have settled on something I found on a site, a row of wire posts  set into plasticine and wire woven in and out of them.  sorted.
