Pete asked me to share this with you.

As usual a brilliant dio. The GS wagon looks really good.

Many thanks Pete

That looks rather amazing. Given me some clues about how to paint horses.

Hi Guys
Thank you for your generous comments

Painting the horses ...
1 .. Undercoat. I use Halfords spray undercoat/light filler. Its a mustard colour paint but I have had no problems with any colour at all painting over it.
2 .. Paint the horse with a base colour ..
3 .. Paint the harness a leather brown colour
4 .. leave to dry for a day or so
5. ..Give the whole horse a dark wash of the base colour, add darker brown or black to the base colour
6.. Once again leave to dry for a day or so ..
7 .. Dry brush the whole horse again with a lighter shade of the base colour. Sometimes better to add pale yellows and and creams to the base colour rather than white.
8 .. Add the final touches, silver or brass for chains and harness buckles, and dry brush a muddy colour around the hooves

When you dry brush make sure the brush is well wiped on some kitchen roll, you want the brush to be devoid of nearly all the paint, and you are better off using a short bristled brush.
I use water colours = Vallerjo, Games Workshop and Foundry Wargames paints.

Once finished painting at the end of the day, wash the brush in water and draw it through SWARFEGA ( hand Cleaner). Bring the brush back to a nice point and any paint left in the brush by accident will not dry and ruin the brush. When you want to use the brush next time just rinse in water and you are ready to go.

Hoping I am not teaching how you to suck eggs ..
Good Luck ..

Really excellent Pete, a nice composition, well posed and superbly painted. The rutted road is also really nice

No, Pete, that's great advice. I haven't painted very much in my life (models and figures, that is) so I'm open to all suggestions. I wish we had more like this on this forum.

Definitely appreciate the advice too. I love building but awful at painting, especially figures and animals (currently painting some 28mm figures and it's pretty rough going, taking a lot longer than I thought)
