On the Armourfast site PDA has produced a series of blogs on producing an accurate British MkIV tanks using the basic Emhar models. Its a real eye opener that a cheap £6.99 model becomes a very expensive model to correct. Need a bankers' bonus to correct a number of them. It clearly highlights to need for an accurate version. Thanks for sharing your work.
Picture shows my attempt at producing various FTs using the HaT models. The Far RHS one is an attempt to do one of the Canadian ones. The wireless FT is a hybrid RPM/HaT. Clearly not up to Benno standard but I enjoyed doing them!
Can only echo Barry's comment, they look very good and it is after all a hobby, personally i'm happy to accept shortcuts or avoid detail if it means I still enjoy the build and, importantly, actually finish the kit instead of never finish it due to always wanting to improve a certain part
Baldwin is correct, RCD. You only make models to please yourself. To me, it's the same as dancing - as long as I enjoy it, who cares how anybody else is dancing?
But your diorama and its models look great. And at least they are finished, whereas my various Mark IVs are not.
And Rob points out the similarity with ome of Stern's and Haig's concerns: it's better to have an imperfect tank today than it is to have a perfect one some time in the future.
Having said that, I do wish Emhar and Airfix had put a little more effort into their Mark IV and Mark I tank kits. It is difficult making a silk purse out of a sow's ear, and it shouldn't be necessary.
And I think you should put your models on Armourfast as well.
Thank your for the constructive comments- they are most appreciated. The forum members here always seem to have a positive attitude - I never see why on some forums certain members take great delight in slagging off anything that is either HaT , Airfix or Strelet. The Airfix forward post is rather long in the tooth but it is still one of my favourite models.
There is a problem with the Armourfast site as the picture needs to be less tan 300k so I will send a copy to the HaT
You did a really good job on your FT models. I still like the Hat model even though it needs some work to make it more accurate. I have one built and I am working on a second.
