They are sold as WW1 snipers. I assume their camo covers the puttees?

Hi,

I have just bought a couple of British sniper figures in 28mm from 1st Corps and I was wondering what sort of colours to paint them?

http://www.1stcorps.co.uk/online_shop/product_info.php?cPath=490_235_236&products_id=2712

I can't seem to find any uniform details for this type of "camo"

Also, does anyone make sniper rifle scopes in 28mm for converting figures to snipers?

Are these WW1 snipers? I can't see their boots, or if they have putees on their legs.

They look very ACW to me: headgear, bread bags - although the rifles are a mystery.

Hi,

The Ghillie as worn by the Scottish snipers in the first world war, was an improvised garment that went over their normal uniform. The tears are for inserting plant matter from the area they are working in.

Good look at a Ghillie here...

Guns? No idea! :)

They're in the 1st Corps WW1section; they've got telescopic sights on their rifles; the ACW snipers look quite a bit different. So I'd say they're definitely WW1.

A relevant discussion here: http://landships.activeboard.com/t45757616/french-tenues-grenouilles/

Rifles could be "Enfield Rifle No 3 (Pattern 1914)" which could be authentic for WW1 Western front (not sure about telescopic sights at that time though, aperture sights more typically I would have thought - see http://archive.org/details/snipinginfrancew00pricrich**. etc.). Ironically, they look a bit more like Gew 98s (the impression being of two forward bands).

** ah, no, looking at the good Major's writings it seems riflescopes were in general use back then - just needed a jolly good officer to ensure they were used properly.

Thanks for the replies all.

Helen - Your picture didn't come out that I could see. Like any internet such you just need to find the right key word which in this case seemed to be ghillie suit. This gave me the following
