PDA, I used to have ajar of humbrol matt black watered down with white spirit. It gave a good 'watery' mixture that just ran into panel lines, etc. If you put too much on, just wash it off with a little more white spirit on your brush, then clean gentle with a cotton bud. It works for me, and just helps to tone down a model.

Fantastic, great to see it 'in the flesh', as it were! Now you just need to put it in a diorama...

Something like this????

Just a simple base to give it a home...

So following some feedback on my A7V build I decided to experiment with a flat coat on the FE... I really should get out of the habit of experimenting on my latest build!

The original finish with oil washes had a light sheen, the flash in the earlier pictures makes it look a lot more shiny than it actually was.

I have to say I'm not overly impressed, to me it just looks a bit dead and lifeless and that's with a 50/50 mix of matt and gloss... I'd be really interested to hear your opinions???

I think the flat coat is an improvement and not at all "dead and lifeless". Perhaps you could put a few dead and lifeless bodies in the diorama to add a bit of animation (now there's a contradiction in terms!).

Thanks Phil... I still think the corpses would look more lively cry

Ok one all so far as I'm still of a mind to put it back into a satin finish again... anyone else?

I think the matt coat makes it look more 'ready for action' than a satin coat would.

Matt finish all over then satin varnish to highlight panels or areas that could be oily or wet from mud etc.

Nice model!

Thanks Helen smile

So it's finally done, still in a matt finish and I'm pleased to say it took a first at the local model club competition on Tuesday evening.

I'm sure Barry will recognise the two chaps having a chat at the back of the tank, as usual they were a joy to paint even with my limited figure painting skills.

I hope you like it.
