PDA, I used to have ajar of humbrol matt black watered down with white spirit. It gave a good 'watery' mixture that just ran into panel lines, etc. If you put too much on, just wash it off with a little more white spirit on your brush, then clean gentle with a cotton bud. It works for me, and just helps to tone down a model.
So following some feedback on my A7V build I decided to experiment with a flat coat on the FE... I really should get out of the habit of experimenting on my latest build!
The original finish with oil washes had a light sheen, the flash in the earlier pictures makes it look a lot more shiny than it actually was.
I have to say I'm not overly impressed, to me it just looks a bit dead and lifeless and that's with a 50/50 mix of matt and gloss... I'd be really interested to hear your opinions???

I think the flat coat is an improvement and not at all "dead and lifeless". Perhaps you could put a few dead and lifeless bodies in the diorama to add a bit of animation (now there's a contradiction in terms!).

Thanks Phil... I still think the corpses would look more lively
Ok one all so far as I'm still of a mind to put it back into a satin finish again... anyone else?

So it's finally done, still in a matt finish and I'm pleased to say it took a first at the local model club competition on Tuesday evening.
I'm sure Barry will recognise the two chaps having a chat at the back of the tank, as usual they were a joy to paint even with my limited figure painting skills.
