Just had this email "RCD has just replied to a topic you have subscribed to entitled New Roden 1914 pattern  Rolls Royce Armoured car on Landships WW1 Forum". It gave the usual URL to click to see it, but the page, and as far as I can see the new reply, are nonexistent.

The basic website is indeed Landships but I didn;t click the other two URLs just in case ...

Edit: RCD did comment on the original postitng - but that was back in 2010! Has it been stuck in the aether all this time??

Further to the above, I've had a private message from one Stephen from a web service claiming to be a Moderator and asking me to email him. But I don't recognise the username and on checking, he's only been a member for 2 hours - sorry to be doubtful but should I worry?

I've had three. Binned them.  If it's something genuine they'll persist. Probably spam, or that phishing thing.

I got a message myself just two hours ago saying "James H just replied to Some FT17s Went a Long Way" and it was the same "no message" when I clicked the link provided.  Weird.  I suppose I should have guessed that it was phoney when they included the "17" after FT! wink

Why would anyone send spurious messages from a WW1 tank forum?

Might be genuine.

Sparklit are the owners of this forum, and maybe they have noticed what I told them about a couple of years ago - this forum doesn't have a Moderator. Me and Rectalgia are listed as Mods but we don't have "full powers". Peter Kempf, Tim Rigsby and Mark Hansen used to have full powers but Tim has given them up and Mark and Peter are "missing presumed disinterested".

It definitely wasn't me. And, as you say, I would never commit such a sin.

Thanks. If Simon is real he will no doubt contact us up front on this site rather than through PM. I'll let it lie till then.

See the "Site Moderation" thread. I've had a PM from Stephen as well (apologies for being wary but I had problems with another site ...).

Me too, I had a message about a reply that doesn't appear among recent posts.

Hi,

There has been a lot of housekeeping to get done. I apologize for the inconvenience but we should get over the hump fairly quickly.

So it looks as though we'll be getting some advertising. Will be interesting to see what Sparklit thinks goes with WW1 model makers.

Whilst I would not like to see advertising, the fact is that the Forum is over $2000 in the red and that fact is displayed at the bottom of the page. So we can say that we are Masters of our own destiny. As at posting this, I was the most recent contributor to the financing of this site, and that was done well over a month ago! We have the wherewithal to turn this around! If all our members made a financial contribution then Stephen would not have to look for advertising sponsors.

Just a thought!
