Can anyone tell me the correct colour the Rolls when they were used in Egypt/Palestine?

I have bought one of Millicasts kits and I am modifying it for 1 War condition.I am hoping to make a small dio.

Thanks in advance.

"Steel Chariots in the Desert" by SC Rolls, who drove them and later went on to drive Colonel TE Lawrence around mentions them as grey

It got smashed in a house move. Never got finished, but it would have been grey.

In Africa they were called Rhinos, which paints a picture of an armoured grey beast. They do look good in grey! :)

Yes. The resolution was only for January. And this thread is about modelmaking in 1/72. smile

That pic is interesting. The few written references say the cars were grey, but the pic shows them as greenish brownish, so one might think it's wrong. However, the pic does get the tyre colour correct, which is something many people get wrong when they paint them black. And the flimsy (if that's what it is) in the foreground is interesting too; it appears the artist may know something we don't. Could the cars have been repainted when they were handed over to the army?

Looking at the LC markings, aren't those Rolls in Army ownership rather than RNAS? If so I'd imagine they'd have been repainted later on, they could perhaps even be the ones used on the western front through 1916 and until early 1917 at Arras before being sent to somewhere warmer

Thank you all,I have managed to get hold of a set of Lacey drawings. There is more work required on the Millicast RR than I thought to bring it back to 1  War condition.

Will let you know of progress.

The card reads "Machine guns and motors at Salonica". Does this offer more info as to the owners of the cars ?
