Help please: dimensions needed of Canon de 75, modèle 1897
Permalink

First to fight have released a small scale kit of the "Soixante-Quinze", some reviewers feel it is too small for 1/72. However as far as I am aware, all of them compared the FtF kit to other kits nominally 1/72, and none of them to the real thing's dimensions. But that is what we need in order to find out whether the kit, or rather any kit, is actually 1/72 or not.

I have checked my references, including the landships website and "Les canons de la victoire", but despite showing useful drawings these sources don't tell the measurements.

Could anybody help please? The total wheel diameter would give me something to work from. Regards, Pat

PS: There are some fine websites on the gun online including these ones

but measurements are scarce.

Hi Pat,

Measurments that I have taken from a "75" in the cemetary at Verdun:

Barrel length = L/36,6, so 274,5 cm, in 1/72 that is 3,819 cm. The kit is about 3,4 cm, so too small.

Carriage from axle to towing ring is 256 cm, in 1/72 that is 3,56 cm. The kit is about 3.2 cm, again, too small.

The wheel, although this could be a later replacement, is 106 cm, in 1/72 that is 1,47 cm. The kit is 1,55 cm. So too big.

So, is it too small? Well, not all of it, so take your pick... smile

With kind regards,

-Arie.

Hello Arie, many thanks for your help!

Even in case the Verdun wheels are not the standard ones, your measurements clearly indicate the reviewers are right and the kit is too small. That's a shame, as it is a nice kit.

Regards, Pat

It is indeed a shame as it is a very nice kit. And I am not amused by my findings, as I already have 2 of these... no
