Is it just me or is this splendid site down?

Looks like it - archive.org doesn't have very much of the site.

I think it was only one person running the website - hope they are ok.

It was fine a couple of weeks ago, maybe just maintenance to the site I guess we'll have to wait and see...

It's hosted by Google in the cloud so the website doesn't really have maintenance outages like server based websites.

It looks like it has gone - about the only reasons for the site to vanish is not paying Google or a request from the owner to close the website.

Anyone got an email address for the site owner?

Regards,

Charlie

IIRC he's Rob Martin aka Munkeezulu.

Is there another website for Landships? The one I have saved is working: Landships II it is not a Google-based website.

This Site:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200531095311/https://sites.google.com/site/landships/

Unfortunatly the Archive version doesn't seem to get beyond the menu's...

Was rather thinking that the owner may be doing some updates...

Elsewhere on the Forum, Gwyn refers to Munkeezulu as "my friend." Assuming he wasn't speaking purely figuratively, perhaps Gwyn can throw some light on it.

I am afraid I haven't been in touch with Rob Martin for some considerable time. There was a time when we worked together on the site (I was credited on it). I don't know why it is down but I do know that Rob's attention has been elsewhere for some little while.

Tony, they are talking about the Landships Google sites website, which was separate from this forum and associated website.

Oh, that's terrible news. It's a fantastic resource. Is there any way of contacting Rob? If it's a cost problem, we might be able to help.

If the creator of the Landships website really has moved on to other things there is another possibility to make the information assembled

live on forever - IPFS (Interplanetary File System) [https://ipfs.io/ for detail] - this distributes content over many machines effectively making content immortal.

I think the data content of the original Landships website is stored in a database - it would probably have to be converted to html but since there

isn't any need for rapid updates that shouldn't be an issue.

I'll volunteer to handle the conversion and deployment to IPFS. Better than just losing all the time and effort which has gone into creating the website.

Rob's site is back up - many thanks to Stephen Pope for this update.

Oh, brilliant. Plus a makeover and more to come.

One small thing. In the saga of 9146 https://sites.google.com/site/landships/home/lists/mk-v-tanks_1/9101-9200 this link doesn't work for me. http://beute.narod.ru/Beutepanzer/uk/MK_V/Mk_V.htm Could be my fault.

I have a memory that narod.ru was restructured some years ago and many of the web pages were taken down.

The page you linked to has been captured by archive.org in a 2012 snapshot.
