Could it be a handbrake? It seems to be connected to the brake behind the right wheel...

It's the brake handle which is turned to drive a screw thread which turns bellcranks which in turn pull the brake blocks

onto the wheel rim. There is a separate brake quick release on the left side brake actuating rod. 

It does look a bit awkward since the gun would have to stop and someone reach under the barrel to turn the handle.

Pity that that the Emhar is the only model available. I especially am interested in modelling an inter-war/ early war version when they converted it with tires but retained single pole.
